• In the summer of 1953 Hinds was enthralled by the BBC's "The Quatermass Experiment", a six-part science fiction thriller written by Nigel Kneale.
• He played a similar role on television in the third Quatermass serial "Quatermass and the Pit", essaying the role of Captain Potter opposite André Morell's Professor Bernard Quatermass.
• His film credits include: "X the Unknown", "Quatermass 2", "The Camp on Blood Island", "The Face of Fu Manchu" and "Quatermass and the Pit".
• He was also offered the lead part of Professor Bernard Quatermass in the famous BBC science-fiction serial "Quatermass and the Pit" in 1958, but declined the role (André Morell was cast instead).
• A slightly revised version of the process, with an improved motion-estimation engine, was first used on the BBC's 2005 DVD release of "Quatermass and the Pit" (as part of "The Quatermass Collection") and then on all subsequent relevant "Doctor Who" DVD releases.

• David Lloyd's adaptation of "Quatermass 2", titled "Enemy from Space (Quatermass II)", in issue #23 (July 1978), was Lloyd's first major work in comics.
• Professor Bernard Quatermass was created by Manx writer Nigel Kneale in 1953 for the serial "The Quatermass Experiment".
