  • Raksha's King Ravana decides to invade Amaravati, the capital of the heavenly kingdom of Indra. Scared of Ravana's plans, Indra asks Narada for help. Narada informs Indra that Ravana's strength comes from the worship performed by Kaikasi, Ravana's mother. He suggests that Indra sabotage Ravana's mother's worship of Saikatha Lingam, a sand sculpture representation of Lord Siva.
  • In the Battle of Lanka that ensues, Angada slays many great warriors from Lanka, including, Ravana's son Narantaka, and the chief general of Ravana's army, Mahaparshva.
  • This second puja was performed by Ravana himself near Rameswaram before the Vanara Sena could cross over to Lanka. Ravana was deemed fit because this ceremony was performed in order to achieve victory in the war to follow. In order to defeat a warrior like Ravana, the performer had to be a Brahmin who performed the ritual of Trisandya everyday without fail. At that time, Ravana was the only such Brahmin in all of Creation.

  • The Vayu Purana states that Kartavirya invaded Lanka, and there took Ravana as prisoner, but later he was killed by Parashurama and Ravana was rescued from Arjuna.

  • Outraged, Nalakuvara curses Ravana to have his head burst into seven pieces if he ever committed violence against a woman out of lust. Sita, the wife of Rama, who Ravana later forcefully abducts, is saved from Ravana's lust only due to the curse. His abduction of Sita leads to his death at the hands of Rama.
  • Ravana for claiming boons, stood humbly in front of Sivan. Seeing this Sivan asked him to ask what ever needed. Ravana replied that Sivan should promise on Ganapathi that he will give what ever asked by Ravana. Then on the promise of Sivan, Ravana started claiming.
  • Hanuman then wreaks havoc in Lanka by destroying trees and buildings, and kills Ravana's warriors. He allows himself to be captured and produced before Ravana. He gives a bold lecture to Ravana to release Sita. He is condemned and his tail is set on fire, but he escapes his bonds and, leaping from roof to roof, sets fire to Ravana's citadel, and makes the giant leap back from the island. The joyous search party returns to Kishkindha with the news.
  • Different versions of the Ramayana record her ill-treatment at the hands of Rama's monkey generals. Hanuman tricks her into disclosing the location of a magical arrow which ram uses to kill Ravana. After Ravana's death, Vibhishana—Ravana's younger brother who joins forces with Rama and is responsible for Ravana's death—marries Mandodari on the advice of Rama.
  • Rama fires a warning shot from his retreat in Suvela. The arrow strikes Ravana's crown and royal umbrella. Mandodari once again attempts to convince Ravana of handing Sita back to Rama. Meanwhile, Rama asks Jambavan what should be done. Jambavan suggests that they send Angada, as messenger, to give Ravana a chance to return Sita. On reaching Ravana's court, Angada explains he is the ambassador of Rama and tells Ravana that he still has time to save himself from destruction. Ravana insults Angada and his refusal to comply makes war inevitable.

  • Vibhishana was a younger brother of Ravana. Though a rakshasa himself, Vibhishana was of a noble character. When Ravana kidnapped Sita, he advised Ravana to return her to her husband Rama in an orderly fashion and promptly which Ravana refused sternly. When Ravana did not heed his advice and threw him out of the kingdom, Vibhishana deserted Ravana and joined Rama's army. Later, when Rama defeated Ravana, Rama crowned Vibhishana as the king of Lanka.
  • His epic, "Ravana Kaaviyam", is a panegyric on Ravana. The book is made of 3100 poetic stanzas in which Ravana is the Protagonist. The book was released in 1946. The book was banned by the then ruling Congress government. The ban was lifted only in 1971 by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi.
