Anwendungsbeispiele Englisch
  • Machine planting was used for forest restoration on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula following a large scale Spruce Bark Beetle outbreak in the 1990s.
  • These numerous enclaves, especially in the "Altgebiet" make the border very long there, and the buffer zone, where bark beetle control is allowed, extends far into the interior of the park (see below for more details).
  • The red flat bark beetle ("Cucujus clavipes") can survive after being frozen to -150 °C.
  • The disease is spread from tree to tree through root grafts and over larger distances by sap-feeding beetles (Nitidulidae) and the small oak bark beetle.
  • In Belgium, elm die-back and death was observed in 1836 and 1896 in Brussels, and in 1885–1886 in Ghent. In the later outbreaks the die-back was attributed to the elm bark beetle.

  • The NPS has combated the disease's local insect vector, the smaller European elm bark beetle ("Scolytus multistriatus"), by trapping and by spraying with insecticides.
  • The less resistant spruce monoculture, that arose as a consequence of the mining industry in the Upper Harz, was largely destroyed by a bark beetle outbreak and a storm of hurricane proportions in November 1800.
  • In particular, verbenone when formulated in a long-lasting matrix has an important role in the control of bark beetles such as the mountain pine beetle and the Southern pine bark beetle.
  • For most of the trails bark beetle infestation of pine trees has killed many trees, and the Curve Fire of 2002 also destroyed many trees along some of the most popular trails—such as Windy Gap, Soldier Creek, and Sunset Ridge.
  • Outside figure skating, Fuchs studied the morphology of the bark beetle "(German: Borkenkäfer)".

  • It is an aggregation pheromone that attracts insects to the plant/ tree host, including the bark beetle.
  • The tree has also been damaged by bark beetle epidemics, particularly at drought-affected low elevations.
  • Once abundant in northern Idaho, Western white pine's population was drastically affected from the late 19th century to the late 20th century by logging, wildfires, white pine blister rust, and a bark beetle epidemic.
  • In North America, there are three species of elm bark beetles: one native, "Hylurgopinus rufipes" ("native elm bark beetle"); and two invasive, "Scolytus multistriatus" ("smaller European elm bark beetle") and "Scolytus schevyrewi" ("banded elm bark beetle").
  • They emerge in the spring and fly to lower parts of trees to hunt bark beetles.

  • Specialist predatory beetles find bark beetles (their prey) using the pheromones the bark beetles produce.
