Anwendungsbeispiele Englisch
- Tantalus and Pleisthenes were killed in revenge by their uncle Atreus, their father’s brother, after Thyestes seduced Aerope, wife of Atreus. The latter was a king of Mycenae.
- However the mythographer Apollodorus followed a different tradition, with no mention of any sexual transgression. Catreus, having received an oracle saying that he would be killed by one of his children, gave Aerope and her sister Clymene to Nauplius to be sold off in foreign lands (Aerope's brother Althaemenes had found out about the prophecy and fearing that "he" would be the one to kill Catreus, took Aerope's other sister Apemosyne with him and fled Crete for Rhodes). Here too Aerope ends up as the wife of Pleisthenes.
- In Greek mythology, Althaemenes or Althemenes (Ancient Greek: Ἀλθαιμένης) was a Cretan prince as the only son of King Catreus of Crete. He was the brother of Apemosyne, Aerope and Clymene. Althaemenes mistakenly killed his father thereby fulfilling an oracle.
- Diodorus Siculus, gives a slightly different version of the story, saying that an oracle had been given to Althaemenes which said that he was destined to kill his father. Another tradition involving Catreus' daughter Aerope, followed by Euripides in his lost play "Kressai", and possibly by Sophocles in his play "Ajax", was that Catreus found Aerope in bed with a slave and sent her to Nauplius to be drowned.
- "Drillia aerope" is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Drilliidae.
- Menelaus ([...]; [...] , "Menelaos"), is one of the two most known Atrides, a king of Sparta and son of Atreus and Aerope.
- In Greek mythology, Apemosyne (Ancient Greek: [...]) was a Cretan princess as the daughter of King Catreus of Crete, the son of Minos. She had a brother Althaemenes, and two sisters Aerope and Clymene.
