Anwendungsbeispiele Englisch
  • Al-Muizz street runs from the city gate of Bab al-Futuh in the north to the gate of Bab Zuweila in the south, both entrances in the stone walls built by the vizier Badr al-Jamali in the 11th century.
  • The main axis of Cairo was the central north-to-south street known as the "Qasaba" (now known as al-Muizz Street), which ran between the gates of Bab al-Futuh and Bab Zuweila and passed through Bayn al-Qasrayn.
  • The mosque originally stood outside the walls of Cairo, but when the Fatimid vizier Badr al-Jamali rebuilt and extended the city walls in 1087 the northern side of the mosque, including its minaret, was incorporated into the northern city wall (between the newly-built gates of Bab al-Futuh and Bab al-Nasr).
  • The gate's form today once again emulates the appearance of Bab al-Futuh but introduces some Turkish elements.
  • The corresponding gate on the northern side of the city was the Bab al-Futuh, which still stands on the northern side of the Muizz street.

  • Three of the gates in the new walls have survived: Bab al-Nasr (1087), Bab al-Futuh (1087) and Bab Zuweila (1092).
