Anwendungsbeispiele Englisch
  • Calcium silicate hydrates (or C-S-H) are the main products of the hydration of Portland cement and are primarily responsible for the strength of cement-based materials.
  • "Left:" hardening of Portland cement (P.C.) through hydration of calcium silicate into calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and portlandite, Ca(OH)2.
  • Silicate goes into Portland cement for mortar and stucco, and combined with silica sand and gravel, to make concrete.
  • Belite is an industrial mineral important in Portland cement manufacture. Its main constituent is dicalcium silicate, Ca2SiO4, sometimes formulated as 2 CaO · SiO2 (C2S in cement chemist notation).
  • Afwillite is one of the calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) that form when Portland cement sets to form hardened cement paste (HCP) in concrete.

  • The creep originates in the calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) of hardened Portland cement paste.
  • Unlike conventional sulfate attack, in which the calcium hydroxide (portlandite) and calcium aluminate hydrates react with sulfates to form gypsum and ettringite (an expansive phase) respectively, in the case of the thaumasite form of sulfate attack (TSA) the calcium silicate hydrates ensuring the cohesion in the hardened cement paste are also destroyed.
  • Alite is the major phase in Portland cement responsible for setting and development of "early" strength.
  • Another well-known variety was Victoria stone, which is composed of three parts finely crushed Mount Sorrel (Leicestershire) granite to one of Portland cement, carefully mechanically mixed and filled into moulds.
  • In order to obtain a suitable reactivity, the obtained fragments are ground to reach the same fineness as Portland cement.

  • Hydraulic lime can be considered, in terms both of properties and manufacture, as part-way between non-hydraulic lime and Portland cement.
  • Its production requirements are less energy-intensive than ordinary Portland cement (at a heating requirement of around 650 °C for talc compared to 1500 °C for limestone to produce Portland cement), while it absorbs far more carbon dioxide as it hardens.
  • Aspdin called the product Portland cement because set mortar made from it resembled “the best Portland stone".
  • The use of coal ash or another suitable substitute, could theoretically have CO2 emissions below 0 kg/m3, compared to portland cement concrete at 400 kg/m3.
  • However Portland pozzolona cements have higher activation energy and therefore, their rate of hydration is lower as compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC).

  • Also high concentrated calcium chloride (CaCl2, 70% more) is well known as accelerator of Portland cement.
