Anwendungsbeispiele Englisch
  • Nietzsche argues that the tragedy of Ancient Greece was the highest form of art due to its mixture of both Apollonian and Dionysian elements into one seamless whole, allowing the spectator to experience the full spectrum of the human condition. The Dionysian element was to be found in the music of the chorus, while the Apollonian element was found in the dialogue which gave a concrete symbolism that balanced the Dionysian revelry.
  • In the Dionysian Mysteries of ancient Greece, initiates used intoxicants, ecstatic dance and music to remove inhibitions and social constraints.
  • Most of the British Church accepted the Dionysian tables after the Synod of Whitby in 664, which agreed that the old British method (the "insular latercus") should be dropped in favour of the Roman one.
  • He also points out that the early Christians lived in a pagan culture where the worship of Aphrodite included "hierodoule" who engaged in ritual prostitution in her shrines and temples, and that the Dionysian Mysteries used intoxicants and other trance-inducing techniques to remove inhibitions and social constraints of believers (regardless of class or gender) to enter into an animalistic state of mind.
  • One of the main principles of the Dionysian mysteries that spread to Latium and Rome was the concept of rebirth, to which the complex myths surrounding the god's own birth were central.

  • The Dionysian Mysteries of mainland Greece and the Roman Empire are thought to have evolved from a more primitive initiatory cult of unknown origin (perhaps Thracian or Phrygian) which had spread throughout the Mediterranean region by the start of the Classical Greek period.
  • Other notable depictions in art include the silver "Great Dish" from the Mildenhall Treasure, the Lycurgus Cup, and in the Renaissance Titian's "Bacchus and Ariadne". The Dionysian retinue was a popular subject for Roman art, especially bas-reliefs and sarcophagus panels.
  • representing various scenes of the Dionysian cult (Silenus abducting a menade, a Satyr's masque).
  • Soon after, probably by the middle of the ninth century, Eriugena made a second Latin translation of the Dionysian corpus, and much later wrote a commentary on "The Celestial Hierarchy".
  • In an otherwise Late Republican-era building, identifiable as such by its brickwork and flooring, the Dionysian-themed landscape and nature frescos lining the walls are reminiscent of the illusionistic early Imperial paintings in his mother's own subterranean dining room.

  • Friedrich Nietzsche at the end of the 19th century highlighted the contrast between the two main elements of tragedy: firstly, the Dionysian (the passion that overwhelms the character) and the Apollonian (the purely pictorial imagery of the theatrical spectacle).
  • The authorship of the Dionysian Corpus was initially disputed; Severus and his party affirmed its apostolic dating, largely because it seemed to agree with their Christology.
  • In 1906 and 1907 Orage published three books: "Consciousness: Animal, Human and Superhuman", based on his experience with theosophy; "Friedrich Nietzsche: The Dionysian Spirit of the Age"; and "Nietzsche in Outline and Aphorism".
